Kallattam is an Indian Tamil-language action film written and directed by G. Ramesh. The film features Nandha in the lead role, while Richard, Sharika, Arthi and Baby Rethva Isvar play pivotal supporting roles. Featuring music composed by Umar Ezhilan, production for the film began in mid-2016. The film was shot extensively in Chennai and Madurai, with Nandha revealing that he signed the film because of director G. Ramesh’s credentials as a cinematographer. The film began production in mid-2016 and was shot within seventeen days.
The film had a theatrical release on 30 September 2016 and received mixed reviews. The critic from The New Indian Express wrote “what is appreciable is that the director has stayed focused on his plot”, stating “there is no forced-in romantic angle nor is there a mundane comic track” and “another positive aspect of the film is its viewing time – It’s appreciable that the director has managed to limit his story-telling to just about 97 minutes”, concluding that “Kallaattam is at the most a stepping stone for a debutant maker”.
Kallattam is a story about a man who loses the money he had borrowed for the treatment of his critically-ill daughter, and how an honest cop, played by Nandhaa, tries to get it back. The Movie also talks about organised crime, involving gangs from outside the state, and portray show they work hand-in-glove with many corrupt cops.
