Pichuva Kaththi (Eng: Small curved knife) is a 2017 Indian Tamil action drama film written and directed by Ayappan. The film features Inigo Prabhakaran and Anisha Xavier in the lead roles, with an ensemble cast of actors including Yogi Babu, Rajendran, Ramesh Thilak, Bala Saravanan and Kaali Venkat in pivotal roles. The film began production during mid-2016 and was released on 22 September 2017 to mixed review from critics.
Three happy-go-lucky friends (Inigo Prabhakar, Yogi Babu, and Ramesh Thilak), who hail from a village in Kumbakonam, get caught by the police when they resort to a bizarre way to arrange money for booze. They are asked to appear in the city police station every day for 30 days. Inigo, who is in love with Sri Priyanka, has no time left as the latter’s father is making arrangements for her marriage.
Meanwhile, a ruthless cop in the police station, who has links with gangsters, asks bribe from the three-member group and threatens them with sequences if they fail to do so. The three start engaging in anti-social activities as per the instructions of the cop. In one such attempt, they get caught while trying to steal a girl’s ornament.
The film also narrates another love track, that of a couple which gets linked with the friends in an unexpected manner. The friends, on the completion of 30 days, decide to go back to their village when a slew of unanticipated incidents occur. This make them put up a fight with the cop and the gangsters whom the latter is associated with.
Despite a not-so-bad plot, Pichuvakaththi doesn’t succeed to engage the viewers because of its watered-down narration and ineffective sequences. The climax of the film, which had ample scope for a riveting sequence, ends up as a mediocre sequence with unconvincing execution. Yogi Babu and Balasaravanan manage to entertain in a couple of occasions, while Prabakar, Ramesh Thilak and other artistes are strictly OK.
