Kannula Kaasa Kaattappa (Eng: Show Me The Money) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Gowtham Sundararajan. It features Aravind Akash, Chandini Tamilarasan and Ashwathy Warrier in the leading roles. The film released on 25 November 2016. The film began production in August 2015, with actor Gowtham Sundararajan making his directorial debut and finalising the project after a year of script-writing. The songs were made by Divakar Subramaniam.
In these times of demonetisation, Kannula Kaasa Kattappa feels topical, even if ‘Major’ Gowtham uses black money mainly as a McGuffin to keep his plot going. The plot involves a minister who approaches a hawala broker to transfer his ill-gotten Rs 100 crore into an offshore bank account. The broker’s man, Jack (Vichu Viswanath) goes to Malaysia to make this transfer. There, various individuals come to know of the money he has and decide to loot him individually. This includes Jai (Aravind Akash) and his grandfather Chinnapayan (MS Bhaskar), who are trying to prevent their ancestral house from changing hands; Madhurima (Ashwathi), a small-time thief, who they mistakenly kidnap once; Shaalu (Chandini), a club singer who is a contact of the broker; and, a don (Kalyan) and his sidekick Kettavan (Yogi Babu). All these people are bumbling characters who are down on luck and desperate to catch a break, one way or the other.
