Bruce Lee was immensely popular throughout the world and his films were huge hits. Cashing on the huge success of 36th Chamber Of Shaolin, S. P. Muthuraman and Panju Arunachalam designed the story of a helpless person who takes training in a martial arts school to avenge the death of his sister. Rajini worked hard on action scenes. Fight master Judo Ratnam was appreciated for his innovative action scenes. Paayum Puli was a hat-trick success for Rajini-AVM-SPM combo.
When a smuggler kills his sister, a naive, immature man (Rajinikanth) vows to deliver justice for her death and joins a martial arts school. He trains hard there to become a master fighter, honing his fighting skills. Taking on a new identity, Paayum Puli (Pouncing Tiger), he sets off for revenge, but the affection of a beautiful woman (Radha) soon puts a hitch in his plans.
